Provinces of Gelderland, Drenthe and Flevoland

Gelderland, Drenthe and Flevoland are required to publish much of their data publicly. GeoCat Live is the unifying layer that publishes it centrally, consistently described and discoverable through each province's data portal, and reusable through standard APIs.

[ The challenge ]

Three provinces, one public duty

Three organisations, three routes

Gelderland, Drenthe and Flevoland each had their own systems, conventions and publication routes for largely comparable data.

A legal duty to publish

Much of this data must be publicly available, described to European and national standards, and kept that way over time.

Reuse blocked by inconsistency

Researchers, applications and policy teams could not count on comparable datasets being described the same way twice.

[ The solution ]

One unifying publication layer

Gelderland, Drenthe and Flevoland use GeoCat Live as the unifying layer that brings this complexity together. Datasets are published centrally, consistently described, and made discoverable through each province’s data portal. Through standard APIs, data is also made directly available for reuse by applications, researchers, and policymakers both inside and outside the provinces.

[ The results ]

What changed across the three provinces

One publication layer

Three provinces publish through the same environment, described the same way, against the same standards.

Ready for reuse

Standard APIs make the data directly usable by applications, researchers and policymakers, inside and outside the provinces.

Findable where people already look

Each province keeps its own data portal, now fed from one central publication layer instead of three separate ones.
